Garden Bloggers' Muse Day ~ September 2008

Owls intrigue me. Maybe because they are not usually seen. We hear their hoot - hoot up in the woods every so often. For Muse Day this September, I choose three owl nursery rhymes / poems. I wish I had an owl photo to share, but the one in my daughter's bedroom will have to suffice. Thanks to Carolyn Gail at Sweet Home and Garden Chicago for hosting this monthly poetry circle.

A Wise Old Owl

A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard:
Why can't we all be like that bird?

The Owl

The owl is wary, the owl is wise.
He knows all the names of the stars in the skies.
He hoots and he toots and he lives by his wits,
but mostly he sits. . . (and he sits. . . and he sits).

I Talk With the Moon

I talk with the moon, said the owl
While she lingers over my tree
I talk with the moon, said the owl
And the night belongs to me.

I talk with the sun, said the wren
As soon as he starts to shine
I talk with the sun, said the wren
And the day is mine.

I love owls too! You know, even though I rarely see them, I so enjoy just hearing their hoots. Cute poems for sure.

What a lovely tribute to the owl for GBMD. Thanks for sharing your daughter's creative mural too. :)

Cute poems--there's actually a lot of wisdom in that first rhyme!
I bet your daughter loves her bedroom mural; did you paint it?

Thanks to all for visiting for Muse Day! I did paint the mural for Lillian's room. Just about this time last year. She does seem to enjoy her animal friends on her wall!

I think owls are fun creatures. Don't laugh, but I was first intrigued by owls as a little girl watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. lol. He has that owl character in his make-believe world, and I've thought they were cool ever since.

My Mama use to quote that wise old owl poem to me. Haha....I like owls too. When I first learned to tole paint, I painted a lot of them. They are all so pretty or odd looking. Nice poems.

There used to be an owl that would hang around outside of our old apartment at night. We loved listening to him hoot. It's a sound that is very relaxing.

We enjoyed listening to the owl, but I'm pretty sure our pet rabbit would get a little nervous. Her ears always perked up and she got real still when it would hoot.

Now that the night sky isn't as dark (unfortunate that a new shopping center opened) we haven't as many owls as we once had. I miss them. I remember reading those poems to my son! A very nice memory for me.

DP ~ Mr. Roger's is great and I think it's sweet that he introduced you to the owl!

Eve ~ I think they are pretty, although if you look at them too long, I guess they can look odd. I bet your tole paintings are just wonderful.

Hap ~ Poor bunny! I guess even domesticated bunnies know the sound of danger!

Gail ~ I'm sorry your night sky isn't as dark as it used to be. Ours isn't as dark as I would like either. It really ruins the night sky-gazing as well.
